When I was the Ocean.
(Archive from 18/04/24)
The moment that my shoes reached the sand,
I kicked them off and ran up
to the inviting sea.
“Welcome home,”
it said,
coming up to meet me.
I crashed into the waves
just as they crashed into me and I
let myself fall into them as they took me in with open arms.
The sea and I became one
and I felt more than whole, for
I was the Ocean.
I held all of the life that the Ocean contained.
Enveloped by the crashing waves
all of my pain shrank
to insignificance
as I became as infinite as the very destruction and creation
that defined the Ocean’s vast bounds.
And as I came up to the shore,
I rose like Venus from the seafoam;
made anew.
I bade the sea farewell
as saltwater dripped from my skin
but held a piece of the Ocean forever in my soul –
just as the Ocean will hold a part of me
in its waters for all of eternity
patiently awaiting the time that we reunite
and become one
once more.
